2014年9月1日20:13 Russia and China have begun the construction of a new gas pipeline linking the countries, with a ceremony in the Siberian city of Yakutsk. China's CNPC has agreed to buy $400bn (￡240bn) of gas from Russia's Gazprom. Russia will ship 38 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas annually over a period of 30 years. The deal will lessen Russia's dependence on European buyers, who have imposed economic sanctions because of the crisis in Ukraine. In a Labor Day speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr Obama said the economy and workers were now better off then when he took office in 2009. "America deserves a raise," he said. His speech comes ahead of mid-term elections in November which will see a close race between Democrats and Republicans for control of the Senate. 2014年9月1日17:06 Manufacturing growth in the eurozone slowed to a 13-month low in August, according to a closely-watched survey. The final Markit's Eurozone Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) dipped to 50.7 in August, down from 51.8 in July. A figure above 50 indicates expansion. New orders dwindled and factories suffered amid rising tensions between the EU and Russia over Ukraine. The figures come ahead of the European Central Bank (ECB) meeting on Thursday. Markets will be looking for a clear plan from the bank to deal with a stalled eurozone recovery, as well as the threat of deflation with inflation standing at just 0.3%.
