People carrying Russian and Ukrainian flags chanted "No to war!" and "Stop lying!" Similar rallies took place in St Petersburg and other Russian cities. It comes after a deal to form a new unity government was signed on Sunday, breaking months of political deadlock. US Secretary of State John Kerry said the deal "offers a huge opportunity for progress in Afghanistan". Under the deal, a new government will be formed and the Houthis and southern separatists will nominate a new prime minister within three days. In Manhattan, organisers said some 310,000 people joined a march that was also attended by UN chief Ban Ki-moon.
