The government goes 法国政府辞职 THE entire French government resigned unexpectedly today after bitter internal disagreements over economic policy. In a statement, President Fran?ois Hollande announced that his prime minister, Manuel Valls (pictured left), who has been in the job for only five months, would name a new team tomorrow. Much depends on the new line-up, but the best outcome could—just possibly—be an end to the contradictions and muddle that have marked economic policy ever since Mr Hollande, a Socialist, was elected president in 2012.

Sony PlayStation network has been shut down by cyber-attack 索尼游戏平台网站遭黑客攻击被关闭 Sony's PlayStation network has been shut down after cyber-attackers overloaded it in what's known as a distributed denial of service attack.
In a blog post Sony said that no personal information had been accessed.
On Sunday an American Airlines flight carrying a senior Sony executive was also diverted following a bomb scare.
The group claiming responsibility for closing down the network also tweeted suggesting there was a security threat to the flight.

India Supreme Court declares coal licences illegal 印度最高法院宣布煤矿执照不合法 India's Supreme Court has ruled that all coal mining licences awarded between 1993 and 2010 are illegal.
Successive governments gave rights to mine coal to state and private companies in a manner which was "not fair and transparent" and without competitive bidding, the court said.
The court will now examine whether 218 such licences should be cancelled.
India's federal auditors say the country lost $210bn (￡134bn) because coalfield rights were sold off cheaply.

The magnitude 6.0 quake, the biggest to hit California's Bay Area in 25 years, struck before dawn on Sunday near Napa, injuring more than 200 people and damaging dozens of buildings in the picturesque community northeast of San Francisco.

Amazon is paying $970 million in cash for the online gathering place for gamers. The deal, which trumped Google Inc.'s pursuit of the startup, is worth about $1.1 billion when including retention-related payouts, said a person familiar with the deal, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private.

Australian airlines approve phone use on flights 澳航空公司允许飞机上使用手机 Travellers on Qantas and Virgin Australia will be able to use their mobile phones and other electronic devices during flights from today.
The new rule applies to international and domestic passengers flying the two Australian airlines.
It will affect tablets, e-readers and small game consoles, as well as smartphones.
Passengers were previously asked to switch off these types of devices during flights for safety reasons.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) said it approved applications from both Australian airlines late on Monday.
Some airlines in the United States, Europe and New Zealand already allow passengers to keep their phones on during flights.
Aircraft are now designed and manufactured so that smartphones and other electronic devices do not interfere with flights.

The bombing targeted the mostly Shia district of Shula.
IS has seized large swathes of Iraq and Syria in recent months.
Since 8 August, the US has carried out more than 90 air strikes to support Iraqi and Kurdish troops tackling the insurgents.
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is currently in Baghdad to talk about the growing threat posed by IS.
